Surely you don't think that it *all* depends on that. Do you remember when Paul Simon and Aretha Franklin played apartheid South Africa during the cultural boycott? They caught a lot of flak. Some people defended them. But I don't remember anyone claiming that it all depended on what music was performed and what they said. Surely the context also matters, in addition to what they do.
