To download (free) and show this absolutely remarkable film - winner of the Durban Int'l Film Festival 'best SA doccie' award last week - please contact the filmmaker, <[email protected]> and/or Anita Khanna <[email protected]> and/or int'l organiser Greg Dor [email protected] ... I witnessed the first public screening, to 1400 metalworker trade union leaders last December, representing Africa's largest trade union. That was one of the critical moments that led to their decision, four days later, to break ranks from SA's ruling party (more: http://monthlyreview.org/2014/04/01/south-africas-resource-curses-growing-social-resistance/ )

Hopefully our colleagues and comrade will take the opportunity to screen the film beforehand, more specifically on the 16th of August the national day or action called by the Marikana support Campaign. On this day scores if not hundreds of screenings of the film will take place across South Africa, at least 40 of these screenings will be followed by pickets of local police stations. Internationally, numerous pickets of South African embassies are being held. If you are living outside of Africa and want to know more when and where please contact Greg <[email protected]>. We are now attempting to encourage our fellow African's to do likewise, or alternatively simply hold a screening to commemorate the massacre.

We are happy to provide a link and password for downloadable copy of the film Miners Shot Down for all those living outside South Africa who plan to hold screenings and or hold pickets.

Yours in struggle

Rehad Desai
