I don't think Gideon Levy meant for his headline to be taken literally. I
think he was being ironic.

I had the opportunity to "meet" Gideon Levy on the phone when I was a
volunteer for CPT Hebron in 1996. Gideon wrote repeatedly in his Ha'aretz
column about a case that CPT Hebron was involved with, a Palestinian man
who spoke Hebrew fluently, having worked many years in Israel, who had the
misfortune that his house was very close to the Israeli settlement of
Kiryat Arba. He and his family, especially his kids, were constantly being
harassed and threatened by the settlers, who among other things, would
throw rocks over the settlement fence onto his house, including while the
CPT team was visiting the house. Of course the Israeli police did nothing
about this.

The impression I got of Gideon Levy from these interactions was of someone
who was - unusual for an Israeli - genuinely and sincerely concerned about
the fate of Palestinian human beings. He spent a long time on the phone
with the Palestinian guy, clearly far more than he needed to in order to
write his column. It was clear that he really felt terrible about how this
guy was being treated and the fact that there was no justice for him.
