It was a typical imperialist arrangement, whereby the big powers dictate what happens in weaker countries. To support the right of outside imperialists (both Russian and Western imperialism) to determine the affairs in Ukraine, to denounce a mass movement against a corrupt and oppressive government as a "coup", to deny the authority of the Rada (parliament) to remove a president, to denounce local elections in Ukraine, and to ignore the ongoing rape of Ukraine by its former colonial master, are manifestations of a mind-set that owes a lot to great-power imperialism. The sort of would-be "anti-imperialism" that sees only outside imperialism in the overthrow of the extremely corrupt and utterly unpopular Yanukovych, and that thinks prettifying another imperialism is the way to oppose US mperialism, is really imperialist ideology in anti-imperialist clothing. I have written on the Ukrainian situation in the article "Support the working people of Ukraine against Russian intervention, Western austerity, and local oligarchs", which has the following sections * The looming economic crisis * From the "Orange Revolution" to Euromaidan * The central government in Kyiv * Antimaidan * Russian imperialism * The annexation of Crimea * Russia and the far right * The secessionist movement in east Ukraine * The program of the secessionists * Western imperialism * Solidarity with Ukrainian working people!
