We have read the equivalent of this article many times. Eagleton's is 
better written than most, but not noticeably more insightful, nor is it 
any more Marxist than, say, Veblen's superb The Higher Learning in America.

One detail: "the institutions that produced ... Einstein capitulate to 
the hard-faced priorities of global capitalism." He attended Swiss 
Polytechnic, where he seems to have acquired the basic conceptual tools 
and skills for physics in a routine way. Then he was on his own, 
struggling to make a living while also struggling to create fundamental 
theoretical physics. He did it, without tenure, without a university 
post of any kind let alone a professorship.
