Nathan, thank you very much.  Classical liberals were skeptical about big 
government.  Neoliberalism has no problem with their version of big government 
– militarism, mass incarceration, domestic surveillance …..  In short, 
neoliberals are closer to Hillary than classical liberals.

Rand Paul is not a neoliberal.

I should say that having read Invention of Capitalism I see one potential 
difference between you and Mirowski. Namely Mirowski take's Neoliberals at face 
value when they distinguish themselves (and set themselves in opposition to) 
classical liberalism. I think you would see the practical political project of 
neoliberals as similar to the practical political project of actually existing 
classical liberals in the 18th and early 19th century. I still think there are 
doctrinaire differences between classical liberalism and neoliberalism but this 
is definitely an avenue for exploration.
