Below on YouTube: The debate in Ottawa earlier this week between Leo Panitch
and Richard Fidler on the split in Syriza resulting from the Tsipras
leadership’s capitulation to the troika.

Fidler argues the position of the Greek left that the Tsipras government had
better options than consenting to the imposition of another harsh round of
austerity on the Greek people, and that these options - notably debt
repudiation - did not require that Greece immediately exit the eurozone.

Panitch hews to the view of the Tsipras government that it had no options
available to it other than surrendering to its creditors in order to buy some
necessary breathing space and to avoid an ostensibly more catastrophic exit
from the eurozone and European Union. The discussion period is a lively and
interesting elaboration of the initial presentations.
