The name's origin is already mentioned on a brand new Wikipedia site:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Popular_Unity_(Greece)
Of course, every forming member in Greece knows that Unidad Popular was
drown in blood on September 11th (i.e., 1973, not 2001). They also know
a few things about their own military corps (I stayed at the home
decades ago of one tortured under its dictatorship). So, we can say
that these founding members have courage.
I have seen reports that many famous personages will be endorsing this
formation; I read Mikos Theodorakis being mentioned.
We do have a "unrepentant" self-claimed Marxist on this list who will
surely have to oppose this new formation until it gets too
embarrassing. In any case, some of us recall when Karl Marx said he was
not a Marxist, so we don't need to bother with a label with a touch of
religiosity included.
