I agree it's a vacuous term. There have been markets for a long time. If the reference is to capitalist markets colonialism already introduced such markets. If it means dynamic capitalist markets then perhaps more recently they could exhibit some of those characteristics. But when they are tottering does it mean they are not emerging? Some years ago in a course I taught at a European business school I devoted an entire lecture critiquing the term "emerging".
