Paul, During the Greek drama earlier this year, self-described leftists interpreted events there to promote one point of view or another here. So far as I know, none of us on this list are of any serious consequence in Greece.
I don't know much about Popular Unity in Greece, and it appears that the next round of pain for the Greek people will not draw the international attention that the Syriza farce did. We can call it a farce now. Seven months ago these "socialists" had sought and won formal leadership of the capitalist state (something that was forbidden as illusory reformism during the era of the Second International). After a few weeks they made it clear they were all about clever negotiation with the Euro-bosses, doing nothing to mobilize and educate the people of Greece. LBJ is reputed to have said, when warned not to press civil rights legislation after JFK was assassinated, what the hell is the power of the presidency for if you're not gonna use it? As for the KKE and me, the archives show, if anyone cares, that I quoted 1) information from the party generally ignored in media reports, like the breakdown of vote totals, and 2) short, plain statements about its fundamental positions on the Eurozone, the currency, etc. LP is the epithet-slinger who combines political labels like "sectarian" with personal insults. I merely note that the KKE's regular vote totals would be equivalent to about ten million in the U.S. That's probably more than Bernie Sanders will get in all primaries. _______________________________________________ pen-l mailing list [email protected] https://lists.csuchico.edu/mailman/listinfo/pen-l
