It would seem that if Corbyn is ever elected, he will face the same
challenges as Tsipras. The British ruling class made the decision 35
years ago to abandon the industrial sector that British capitalism
rested upon historically. The miner's strike was a challenge to this
move that was smashed just as the P9 and airline controllers strikes in
the USA were broken by Reagan in a bid to transform the American
economy. Ambitions to deploy a Keynesian program in the 1930s were
realizable since the USA and Britain were still in the middle of a long
industrial expansion. That is why auto workers had leverage in the late
30s. Ford, GM and Chrysler were still committed to doing business in the
USA. With electronic advances, it is possible for the Anglo-American
bourgeoisie to make money even though most of their investments are on
foreign soil. Apple is the American company with the largest
capitalization, twice that of ExxonMobil. Its products are made in China
and it uses a dummy holding company in Ireland to avoid paying taxes.
