The Zuckerberg LLC will invest for profit. Still, it does not seem to
have the flexibility that late nineteenth century fortunes achieved.
Rockefeller made his big money in oil then diversified and had Chase
Bank for a control center. Regional industrial fortunes like Mellon from
aluminum acted similarly. The master group at riding one industry after
another to enlarged capital was the Morgan group, from rail and steel
through to electrical industries and utilities.

Zuckerberg LLC may invest in health and education ventures, but it does
not look as though it will be a major player in the industries nor a
broad empire of capital. Similarly for Gates.

What does the new pattern of managing fortunes tell us about capitalism
today?
