Marv Gandall: Of course I want to see how this turns out. I’m all in favour of
raising peoples’ political consciousness and going with them as far and as fast
as they’re willing and able to go. I’ve welcomed the latest Sanders and Corbyn
campaigns for this reason, and would like to see the same development within
the same constituencies which support the NDP here.

I don't much care who is elected president, but assuming (what can't be
assumed) that a president more or less committed to "progressive interests" is
elected, an anecdote from the '30s is of some interest.

Some labor leaders had called on FDR to urge a certain policy. At the end, he
told them: O.K., you've convinced me. Now go out and make me do it.

Even if the fantasies of Sanders supporters are true, he will not carry out any
of his promises unless there is _also_ a strong mass movement to make him do
it.

In other words, Naiman is wasting his time in supporting Sanders. Assuming
Sanders means what he says, it's no use electing him unless there is _also_ a
strong NON-electoral movement built up. FDR (whatever his wishes were) would
not have initiated Social Security without the whip of the Townsend Plan.

Even Cox or Proyect or Marv would serve the corporations if elected president
unless there was a huge mass movement to make them do what they wanted to do.
