As DD noted, and I have as well, there is 1% of _any_ poll that would vote for Eric Cartman or Adolph Hitler.

The existence of that does not indicate an understanding of the
programs of the parties involved.

If pollsters are really interested in estimating the proportions of Kerry/Edwards, Bush/Cheney, Nader/Camejo, and other supporters who understand the respective programs of the campaigns, they could actually ask respondents questions about the programs. That would be an interesting poll. If the contests are based upon the programs alone, without the candidates' names attached to them, the program advanced by Nader/Camejo might very well get the top billing, as the majority of Americans want to bring the troops back home and to establish universal health care. -- Yoshie
