Today's Wall Street Journal has a front-page article in the Money and Investing section suggesting worries that the Bush deficit might threaten the bond market. Of course, there's no way that he can cut the deficit without catastrophic cuts in nondefense spending or increasing taxes.
Molly Ivins had a piece in the Sacramento Bee today. It probably ran earlier elsewhere. She says that when a dog begins to kill chickens the only remedy is to tie a dead chicken around its neck until it stinks so bad that the dog ceases to kill chickens. She suggests that for more years of Bush will be a stinking chicken for the electorate. I hope she's right. Political question: why did the Democrats do better in the House than in the Senate? Didn't they pick up a couple of seats outside of Texas -- although Louisiana has some outstanding runoffs. Finally, I appreciate the Social Security thread, but how can you translate this into a way that people (who believe that Saddam had nuclear weapons) understand? -- Michael Perelman Economics Department California State University Chico, CA 95929 Tel. 530-898-5321 E-Mail michael at ecst.csuchico.edu
