I agree with you--we did have a lot of that community, and there's
some returning in the anti-war movement.  But, it's too fragmented,
unstable and widely scattered geographically to be much of an
alternative to the Evangelicals.  I'd love ideas about how we could
do better.

My arms to short to box with God.

In Detroit we organized people on the basis of something real, that was driving people into action or enough concern to have an opinion about people driven into action about a complex of issues. We always had preachers and Ministers whose gospel (God Spell) of the oppressed was a living doctrine. Jesus dealt with classes and said something or the other about it being easier to get a camel through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get in heaven.

This is really still abstract. There are 30,000 people in Detroit with their water cut off.

Do God and Jesus say a person can have water? Those reactionary citadels of the Church who blame the individual, have to pay the water bills and help those without and this is exactly what the Mormon's do for instance. After all the bullshit the Mormon's pay people water bills and fix their roof and concentrate on single women in need.

Then we had basketball teams and baseball teams and book clubs and hell of a parties charging between $5 and $7 a pop. Everyone from all classes love the parties - Cabarets, because we got a chance to mingle and socialize outside the "officials" structures of society. It was like:

"No since in sitting alone in your room,
Come hear the music play.
Life is a Cabaret old cum.
Come to the Cabaret."

Really.

All the "La - La" dissovles and the professors get a chance to be with someone other than professors and the industrial workers get to be with someone other than industrial workers and everyone knows it is on the progressive tip.

This is an art each wave and generation learns. The real divisions of the working class comes out of its stratification. The technical workers gravitate towards a technical solution. The industrial classes gravitate toward an industrial solution. The educators as a stratum want an education solution that does not deny the property relations, but places a premium on education or culture. The cirminals - "Krim-No" want any soilution that leave enough social space for crime. And the God fearing majority - the Women Factor is big in this< want a certain social interaction and help that the organization that is the Church has offered.

The Church spilt in America on the question os slavery and they are going to split again on the basis of water bills and other such "trifles."

The God of the Oppressed say, "let the people drink water and wash their clothes and take a bath and get baptized because they are not clean - Holy.

If we were dealing with a feudal order we would have a fight on our hands because they were the direct property holders in a landed property relations.

I am probably wrong but for what I can make out of it, Jesus was a class man of his times and he got physical with the money lend- the Women Factor is big in this< want a certain social interaction and help that the organization that is the Church has offered.

I don't know . . . but I never thought or understood history to say that the Roman's sent the debating society after Jesus. They sent the army after him.
