Someone sent this to me, fearing that it might be misunderstood here.  I don't 
think so.
The correspondent makes a valuable point.



one area the fascists had it over our Republicans is the former actually
improved the economy and living conditions for most people, albeit for
average people working hours increased a bit and without much wage growth,
and for "enemies" nothing needs to be said about the horrors meted out.
But,they created full employment for the "mainstream."  The Republicans, by
contrast, only deliver the illusion prosperity for the many, and their
"mainstream" consists only of the top decile at best with some crumbs
falling to the second decile.... For a significant number of Germans, a
majority really, the fascists could, in LBJ fashion, exclaim, "you never had
it so good."  For the Republicans, it's only simulcra...
