Daniel Davies:
Lou, just as a bit of advice, I really wouldn't bother reading weblogs. The
damn things take up an unreasonable amount of your time and they're usually
crap. Henry Farrell isn't execrable; he's actually a bloody nice bloke.
He's politically of the soft left, but so are about a million people who
don't have weblogs and you wouldn't bother starting a fight with them.
Well, I write mostly for the amusement and edification of Marxmail where
700 hard leftists hang out. I also put my longer pieces up on my Columbia
website where I get about 25,000 visits a month. For some months I have
been putting them up on my own blog as well (unrepentant Marxist), which
gets about 500 visits a week. Frankly, I don't give a rat's ass about the
Henry Farrells, Michael Berubes and Timothy Burkes of the world. They are
just foils for my polemics, which help to stiffen the backbone of other
unrepentant Marxists--mostly people in their 20s who really want to wipe
capitalism off the face of the earth rather than to theorize about it in
MLA terms. Thanks for the free advice, anyhow. That's better than what I
used to get on PEN-L.
