Marx thought that work should be mixed with education for children -- but he didn't think children should work 12 hour days! Similarly, in a reasonably decent society, in which no one worked more than (say) 20-30 hour weeks, it would be sensible for those over (say) 55 to go on working (say) 8 or 10 hour weeks! _Mere_ retirement is something like the warehousing of students in schools simply to keep them off the streets and the job-market.
