Would you please send this out to the lists? My only comment would be to note that Lenin was ruthlessly honest about the NEP in characterizing it as a tactical retreat (in the face of low levels of development of productive forces, the myriad needs of the masses, imperialist encirclement/hostility and mutiple modes of production or remnants of old modes of production within the social formation of the USSR) for purposes (hopefully) of strategic advance (hopefully one step backward for each two steps forward rather than two steps backward for each step forward) and never suggested the NEP as any kind of model for socialist construction.
