i should just rest my case, based on the above, but i will say a few
words: roy wants to be an inspiring silver-tongued leader -- give "i
have a dream" like speeches and rev. al style soundbites. (putting aside
the work that MLK did apart from giving speeches) IMHO, she does not
have it. the prose is not inspiring. there is no imagery. its just a lot
of words and sentences.
and the content: each prisoner tortured in abu ghraib is/was NOT my
comrade (except in the sense of all human beings being my comrade).
perhaps some of them were rapists. others murderers. the reason i am
opposed to what the US military did has nothing to do with that. howard
dean (or even your milder conservative) is not my comrade, but if
someone tortured him in a similar fashion, my reaction would be much the
same. my outrage over the killing of a child does not and should not
come from a convoluted self-interest argument.
