My very vague recollection is that Gunder was in the US and discovered when trying to cross the border that he was in the computers (or whatever) as a security risk to Canada. This seems to have been during Trudeau's reign. He ultimately was allowed back in but it may have been post-Trudeau. Gunder professed ignorance over why this might be, but I think it relates back to his apparent support for student protestors at Sir George Williams (subsequently absorbed into Concordia) who destroyed the college computer (1967?). (This same event, incidentally, was also instrumental in driving Pope Eugene Genovese to the right.) If I recall correctly, the student leader (Rosie Douglas?) years later became prime minister in a Caribbean country (perhaps Dominica). in sol, m Michael A.
