the good news is that GM & Ford are being punished for selling lots of
those evil SUVs, which now aren't big sellers because of the high
petrol prices (sorry about the Britticism, but I like alliteration).
Junk ratings imply higher interest costs on new loans (and rollovers
of old loans) to these companies, making it harder for them to recover
(unless they can push the costs onto workers and other "stakeholders"
-- as with the airline biz).

when you think about it, who needs GM or Ford, two really wasteful and
destructive companies? well... it's the employees, pensioners, and
neighboring communities that need them, unless some substitute can be
provided.
