Why is it that after some considerable depreciation of the dollar, the US trade
deficit persists?
1 because of hysteresis
2 the east Asian and Chinese currencies are pegged to the dollar
3 because US consumer spending is financed by low interests loans
4. other, specify?

Trade deficit, the most basic of definitions:
The value of a nation's imports exceeds the value of its exports.

Snide aside: The US has no exportable product except technology,
and almost everything used in "daily life" by the average American
is imported. A little lopsided.

The dollar needs to be devalued to dollar-ette.

Snide aside out of my system.
