Didn’t Jerry Brown, in a bid for the White House, channel author Gore
Vidal’s ideas about converting the production of weapons to the production
of mass transit?

I am all for base closures; close them all. During Vietnam, the politicians
in
the Senate that first broke with LBJ had few bases and little defense
contracting.

Liberal Calif. was relatively late in the game, although we had some good
Congressional reps. Berkeley had few bases.
