Well, almost anyone who is to the left of Pat Robertson and has gotten her name into the corporate media (or sometimes even just got featured on an obscure Web site or at a small political rally) can get onto David Horowitz's list -- even Teresa Heinz Kerry is on it. :-0 So, being hated by Horowitz isn't an automatic ticket to the list of people I would work with.
Modern political communication imposes dilemmas on public speakers. Those who refuse to be handled by handlers (Ralph Nader) or are insufficiently groomed by them (Howard Dean, Dennis Kucinich) pay a price; but those who are handled by handlers too much (John F. Kerry, who in his Vietnam Veterans Against the War days must have actually believed what he said, whether or not he really wrote his own speeches even then) just lose their plot (even a capitalist plot) and become incoherent. One way or another, political consultants destroy just about anything left of center, and only Clintons and Blairs survive. As for MoveOn Democrats, I could count myself as a MoveOn Democrat, too, in the sense that I signed at least two of their incessant petitions (one about the Supreme Court, another about Cindy Sheehan -- I may have signed something else as well). But those who pay for MoveOn and those who manage it -- a very small elite clique, more tightly and undemocratically organized than any M-L sect -- are no friends of mine. Nor are they Cindy Sheehan's (and her supporters'), I think, if she desires immediate withdrawal of US troops from Iraq, as she says she does. On Aug 26, 2005, at 4:04 PM, tom walker wrote:
Start here, Yoshie: http://www.fenton.com/pages/home.htm http://www.frontpagemag.com/Articles/ReadArticle.asp?ID=12616 There are DLC Democrats and there are MoveOn Democrats. The question is, though, who can we work with, not who do we trust absolutely. Anyone who lands on Horowitz's enemies list deserves at least a fair hearing. Sandwichman
