The United Nations said 150,000 Iraqis have been displaced by sectarian
violence sparked by the bombing of a 1,200-year-old Shiite shrine Feb. 22.
The U.N. now estimates that 1.3 million people are displaced in Iraq.
That's about 5% of the country's population.

BAGHDAD (AP) — The U.S. military issued a sober assessment Tuesday of
the Baghdad security crackdown, saying violence had decreased only
slightly in the two weeks since 75,000 American-backed Iraqi soldiers
flooded the capital.
Maj. Gen. William Caldwell, spokesman for U.S. forces in Iraq, said the
overwhelming security operation launched two weeks ago to rein in
violence was moving slower than hoped.
"It's going to take some time. We do not see an upward trend. We ... see
a slight decrease (in violence) but not of the degree we would like to
see at this point," he said at a news conference in the heavily
fortified Green Zone.
