These protests were one of the most extraordinary political
achievements in a long time.  First, the number of people mobilized;
Second, they did not offend many people who were not anti-immigrant in
the first place.

But, as Yoshie correctly observed, the movement did not line up with
the rest of the left.  I think we know where the fault lies.
