We consider any unused labor to be a waste, but
when we produce too much to stay busy we are
wasting resources and pushing global warming.
Since a small part of the human workforce can
provide all the needed labor we need some way to
make unemployment acceptable, even desirable.
Maybe we should call it leisure.
If I understand you correctly, you are advocating an economic system where robots and a small number of technicians manufacture all of the needs of the whole human population and a benevolent government makes sure everyone gets their share?
Even assuming such a system was possible to create (which it isn't), how can a society sustain itself on this humiliating basis where its members do not possess the means or desire to supply themselves with even the basics of food and shelter and are therefore utterly redundant? Maybe they can all become lawyers or investment bankers or real-estate agents to keep themselves amused? But where is the motivation for this in such an utopian society with no shortage of "money"? Maybe then everyone can stay home and have sex all day and all night? Or perhaps take up careers in painting and music and seek spirituality?
