But the Tudeh Party *did not* challenge the government. Didn't you read that excerpt from Val Moghadam's article that I posted? The Tudeh had the same relationship to the Islamists that the Chinese CP had to the KMT in 1927. It led to disaster in either case.
History doesn't repeat itself, not even as a farce. Generals who seek to fight the last war are setting themselves up for defeat.
