Can pen-lers suggest any recent analyses of how wage bargaining functions in the US.

Do the unions, despite their reduced membership, or any unofficial forms of organisation, play a role in setting the pattern for wage agreements? How do wages get set in sectors which are not unionised?

Is it mainly a question of how tight the labour market is? - I remember seeing notices on the lamp posts advertising for workers in many East Coast states in the late 90s when wages did rise, even for low paid workers.

Any guidance would be very welcome.
