One other dimension of the ruling class is the degree of deception involved -- not just the way some Democrats may pretend to be the representative of the working class. Some people are deceived into thinking that they are part of the ruling class, even though they may not think in terms of classes.
Self-deception is also an important feature. I imagine that some of the right-wing loonies and religious fundies see themselves as part of the leadership. Would David Rockefeller invite them for lunch? I do not believe that all of the leading Democrats see themselves as stalking horses for the ruling class, just as the gay Republicans, see themselves as making things better for their group. Clear thinking is not a very important characteristic in American politics. -- Michael Perelman Economics Department California State University Chico, CA 95929 Tel. 530-898-5321 E-Mail michael at ecst.csuchico.edu michaelperelman.wordpress.com
