Anybody really interested in who "they" are can consult any of a number of online sites documenting which individuals and companies contributed to the selection process for the government. He further asks, "How do you know what 'they' want?" If contributors pay fortunes to put candidates into office, what those candidates do can be taken to represent what their employers want done, particularly if they get even more money to win reelection.
