It is about time to think about why Marxism "did not work in the places where Marxist theory says it was SUPPOSED to work." It may be that hitherto existing socialist movements were only equipped to accomplish the task of eradicating feudal and other pre-capitalist relations of production, consciousness, etc. (outside the West, socialists generally do this task much better than capitalists). It may be that, beyond a certain threshold of proletarianization, it becomes difficult to organize people for _anything_, let alone socialism, so more capitalist development, beyond a certain thershold, becomes less likelihood of overcoming the capitalist mode of production. -- Yoshie
^^^^^^^ CB; Or it may be that the forces of destruction have been developed so much by capitalism that capitalism is able to resist socialist transformation by pointing nuclear and other guns at the heads of socialist nations, and playing suicidebomber chicken with the human species, holding it hostage as the perpetuaion of capitalism. Also, the capitalists have become even more precisely capitalist class conscious by the existence of socialist countries and their broadcasting of Marxist ideas. The capitalist do Marxism in reverse and focus in on corrupting the revolutionary agents' , the working class, consciousness with patriotism centered on anti-communism as well as keeping the standard of living of a critical mass of the U.S. working class at a clearly privileged level compared with the other workers of the world. Persuading masses of U.S. workers to prosecute colonialist, anti-communist wars in Korea, Vietnam, and otherwise confronting communists establishes a very solid, multigenerational tradition and mentality that is anti-communist. The U.S working class has anti-communism and patriotism forged in blood and bonded together in their consciousness. The privileged material circumstances of betteroff U.S. workers underpins this consciousness. Many American workers glory in living in "the greatest country in the world."
