Well Vietnam was a mire. Did it help the left? Seems to have set up the US for Reagan.
I still think domestic politics in the US could come around to health care, retirement and quality universal education if what the federal government does now (basically run foreign policy so as to spend most of the money on militarism) could be contrasted with what it might do instead. At this point I am going to go out on a limb already 50% sawed through and say campaigning for Gov. Dean would be better than taking any sort of joy whatsoever in the hell that is the US occupation of Iraq. It might be as ineffective but less joyous for you though. CJ
