Well, the ruling class is putting on a bold front, to be sure...and
the public's quiet...for the present.

Just last night there were *hundreds* of rallies and demonstrations
against the war in Iraq in different points of the country. It's in
the newspapers today. Or can be googled. I happened to go to one of
those rallies in downtown Manhattan with my toddling son and a couple
of friends. Considering the short notice and how cold it was after
this summery winter we've had, it wasn't bad at all. We were as noisy
as we could have been.

Unless rallies against the war organized by MoveOn and like groups
don't count...

One of the most interesting experiences of my life...and it's shared
with Carrol, Louis, and much of this list, is that we have repeatedly
been absolutely dead right on the big questions. And we have been for
years, for decades. And it's as though we're invisible in terms of
the public life of the country.

Maybe the questions you guys are concerned about are too abstract to
have any practical relevance.

Talking about practical relevance, I was just looking at the Science
Times yesterday, where they report that some clever geologists are
predicting the collapse of all the continents into one -- Pangea
Ultima.

Pangea Prima (affirmation). Five continents (negation). Pangea
Ultima (negation of the negation). The cycle will only take over 550
million years...
