Sheila Kuehl's plan was definitely better. After all, she was one of
the stars of the old Dobie Gillis TV show (playing Zelda), which
trumps anything Ah-nold did in Hollywood. The lead Dems also opposed
her plan, no?

Jim and Michael,

It should be juicy to watch the course of AS's proposed health-care reform.
Recall his veto last Sept. of universal health-care coverage (state Sen.
Sheila Kuehl's SB 840), approved by the state Legislature. Here is her
recent LA Times op-ed on health-care reform in CA
<http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/la-oe-kuehl9jan09,0,7944823.story>.

AS defended his SB 840 veto by saying that health care for all is too
costly. Where centrism begins, the right-wing ends?

He's more clever than Davis. He ran as a centrist, then took the role of a
hard
right radical, except on social issues. Now he is running as a soft
Democrat,
working closely with the Democratic leadership, which consciously undercut
the
Democratic candidate in the last election. I'm not sure if his
triangulation
will
work, offering some red meat to the Republicans, who are now behaving as his
enemies.
