Martha Nussbaum has characterized 'disgust' or contempt as a foundation
for an emotional wall. If I remember left history, our concept is
criticism and self criticism. Meaning people can be re-educated. The
idea you have contempt for any of this means you have shut down
emotionally in order to block out what you don't want to hear. Usually
in my view as time goes by this attitude gives way to thoughtfulness
and when you want to discuss things as if criticism and self criticism
is a good way to educate you are welcome. What is needed is openess in
the sense that contempt does not produce. Not acceptance of racism,
but to bring forward educate and change.
thanks,
