I think that Ravi's suggestions were quite good.  I confess when I first heard 
about
whiteness studies, struck me as a little bit silly, or even ultra-PC. When I 
looked
at Roediger or, say, Katznelson, Ira. 2005. When Affirmative Action Was White: 
An
Untold History of Racial Inequality in Twentieth-Century America (NY: W. W. 
Norton &
Company), I was quite impressed.
