ABSTRACT
Capital was central to the new political order of the wealth of nations.
It was the most important invention of the bourgeoisie. In order to
legitimize this new order, capital had to be embedded in a new
scientific doctrine. That is how political economy – the new science of
society and forefather of the modern social sciences – came into being.
