FWIW, Vista is not ready for prime time anyway, as exhibited by the shop
computer's inability to resume from 'resume mode' when booted from a
lan without an
exquisitely elaborate re-boot routine that dumps out into a bios
screen asking if you'd care to delete the old 'resume' information and
start from scratch.


Users force Dell to resurrect XP

Responding to customer demand Dell has restarted selling new PCs with
Windows XP installed on them.

The decision reverses a policy begun in January that meant Windows
Vista was the only operating system available on almost all new home
machines.

I see nothing new in the software or virus threat world that requires
a new OS, but the computer manufacturers are loving it, with the need
for double the memory and optimized chipsets, obsoleting millions upon
millions of computers that are perfectly capable of running ANY
software currently available to the public.

That translates to billions of tons of toxic trash for the sole
purpose of selling more computers.
