In Asia, polyculture rather than rotation is more common.  Many plants and 
animals
can grow side-by-side.  Native Americans on this continent used polyculture
interplanting corn, beans, and squash.  In some parts of Asia, fish would be 
grown
in the rice patties.  Algae would be used to produce nitrogen.  The production 
fowl
in the system helped to create the threat of bird flu.
