I respectfully disagree with Jim. We visited Cuba on the same excursion right before Mariel. I was struck by the number of young people who expressed disappointment that many of the most attractive professions were now filled. I was under the impression that the vacuum created by the exodus produced a great deal of excitement for people who could move up into high-level positions that their class positions would have prevented before the revolution.
