Cockburn is as lazy on this, as on 9-11 research. Paul

Subject: Alexander Cockburn digs a deeper hole
I can just see Alexander Cockburn bawling out a Nation Magazine intern=20
last week. =93Look, when I told you to find an article by Zbigniew=20
Jaworowski, I assumed that you would have sense enough to not go near=20
Larouche with a ten foot pole. Don=92t you know how embarrassing it is fo=
r=20
me to have to explain myself now?=94
Of course, if Alexander Cockburn was a bit less lazy, he=92d have
vetted=20 the material before it found its way into the pages of the
Nation=20 Magazine. I guess he was snookered by the innocuous-sounding
title of=20 Larouche=92s magazine: 21st Century Science & Technology.
With his=20 characteristic pugnaciousness, he now chooses to brazen it
out and make=20 Jaworowski sound legitimate.
He writes, =93I strongly doubt that Jaworowski knows much or indeed=20
anything about the more sinister and odious aspects of the LaRouch
[sic]=20 enterprise, and sent along his paper because they asked him
to.=94 Of=20 course, the issue is not so much whether Jaworowski is the
babe in the=20 woods that Cockburn alleges, but whether we should have
expected more=20 from Cockburn himself. As probably the highest-profile
radical=20 journalist in the U.S. since John Reed, one might have hoped
that he=20 would have rolled up his sleeves and examined this material
more=20 closely. It seems, however, that it his very elevated reputation
that=20 subverts his ability to examine his work critically. As should
be=20 obvious from Woody Allen=92s movies, this is an occupational hazard
of th= e=20
high and mighty.
