The panel still shows the 'invite to gmail' but it's no longer necessary.
Gmail has been open to the public for at least a couple of months.

I use Y! mail for my news & newsletters (because I can keep specific
items from not being downloaded by POPmail if I move the item from my
inbox to another folder) and Gmail for lists. The format works quite
well for lists, but as indicated in the parentheses, the 'tag'
protocol has it's drawbacks.
