I have a feeling some of the intensity of the NY Post has to do with the target being Columbia University. Despite being utterly hostile to tenants' rights, the paper has been lambasting Columbia for its move into Manhattanville as if it were Saddam invading Kuwait in 1990.
At least part of the right has been against Columbia's move because it involves such heavy use of NY's very developer-friendly eminent domain law. I interviewed a fellow from the Manhattan Institute, Julia Vitullo-Martin, about this a few months ago: <http://www.leftbusinessobserver.com/Radio.html#070405>. I'm with the libertarians on eminent domain, but it's interesting you say that the Post is against Columbia's expansion. I can't imagine them standing up for Harlem or taking a principled libertarian position - or a principled position of any kind. Do they hate Columbia that much? Doug
