  Senate Committee Passes PATRIOT Act Reauthorization Bill


Washington, D.C., October 9, 2009 - The Senate Judiciary Committee, 
yesterday approved the USA PATRIOT Act Extension Act of 2009 (S.1692) 
by a vote of 11-8.  The legislation would extend three controversial 
provisions within the Patriot Act until 2013.  The provisions allow law 
enforcement agencies to conduct roving wiretaps without having to 
identify suspects by name, search an individual&rsquo;s personal 
and business records with reduced judicial oversight, and investigate 
suspects without having to first prove any link between them and a 
terrorist organization.

  Iranian American becomes Senior Advisor to the Clinton Climate Initiative




October 9, 2009, Washington, D.C. &ndash; On October 2nd, 
Iranian-American David Nahai took the position of Senior Advisor to the 
Clinton Climate Initiative. The Initiative is part of former President 
Bill Clinton&rsquo;s foundation to study and find solutions to 
climate change and global warming.

Academy Award Winner Sidney Poitier Joins Angella Nazarian for Book Launch






October 8, 2009, Beverly Hills, CA - On October 18th, Academy Award 
winning actor Sidney Poitier will be introducing Angella Nazarian and 
her new book, Life as a Visitor at the Beverly Hills Civic Center 
Plaza. The theme of the event centers around the subject of 
Nazarian&rsquo;s recently released book- a look at the universal 
journey we face in finding our sense of &ldquo;home&rdquo; in 
our community and within ourselves.

PFA Event: To Be Streamed Live on PAAIA's Website Sunday, October 11th






The Persepolis Fortification Archive Project: Preserving the Legacy of 
the Persian Achaemenids event will be taking place on Sunday, October 
11th at the Fours Seasons Hotel in East Palo Alto, California. The 
event will be graciously hosted by the Friends of Persepolis 
Fortification Archive Project & the World Association of 
International Studies.

PAAIA Chicago Chapter to Host Kick-Off Event






The PAAIA Chicago Chapter will host its kick-off luncheon on October 
24, 2009 at Gibson&rsquo;s Steakhouse in Chicago. The luncheon is 
intended to introduce PAAIA to the Iranian American community in the 
Windy City and seek input on issues of importance to the Iranian 
American community.  Guests will also have the opportunity to meet the 
Chicago Chapter leaders and the executive staff of PAAIA.
