Milestone for Iranian Americans

January 27th, 2010, Washington, D.C. – Earlier this
afternoon, the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform
approved a resolution which honors the Iranian New Year (Nowruz),
therefore bringing it one step closer to being voted on in the U.S.
House of Representatives. If passed, it would be the first time that
the U.S. Congress has officially recognized the Iranian New Year.

PAAIA would like to thank Congressman Michael Honda (CA-15th), who
introduced the Nowruz resolution (H.Res. 267) at our request in the
March of 2009. This success is a great achievement for the Iranian
American community and will help to foster a greater understanding of
Iranian culture and heritage as well as projecting an accurate and
positive image of our community to the American public as well as
policy makers.
