Brendan,

You have all kinds of neat documentation on you web pages.

Thank you for the links,

G'Day Folks,

I've uploaded the first paper in a series on Solaris performance
monitoring metrics. This one is "disk utilisation by process".

It's on the following website,

        http://www.brendangregg.com/Perf/solarismetrics.html

I began writing them as reference material to support the tools I was
writing such as those in the DTraceToolkit. They cover what the
performance metric means, how to derive it, how to interpret it, and
limitations involved. The OpenSolaris project has made writing such
detailed references possible.

I'm often asked to explain the output from tools I've written. My answer
is usually far from straightforward, explaining many subtle tricks used
to understand what the values really mean. It makes sense to document
these somehow.

The disk utilisation by process paper is now the best reference I have on
the topic - and now I need to update my older tools to properly implement
the algorithms presented! :)

more papers to follow.

enjoy!
