Hello!

I recently wrote about slow performance of video playback on my Thinkpad R50 notebook running SX 10/05 x86. In the mean time, I made some other experiments and here's what I found.

This is not related to playing videos but to simple display of images in Mozilla. The problem is the most pronounced when viewing www.sun.com web page and its big main image which changes as the mouse pointer travels accross the three-part menu area on the right of the image. The problem is that these images take very long to (re)draw, as I move the mouse up and down through the menu. The whole computer is slowed down, and the mouse pointer motion becomes extremely jerky.

This happens on my Thinkpad R50 with ATI Radeon Mobility 9000. However, the exact same behavior is present on my desktop Athlon64 3000+ with NVidia GeForce 5200 card, first running S10GA and now running SXCE b28, the very latest. Two completely different machines with different graphics cards, both using Xorg.

Then I tryed with Xsun server, and what do you know, it worked perfectly! The images were redrawn instantly, with no effect on the mouse pointer motion. Unfortunately, playing videos is still not perfect, though it is with much less frame-loss than with Xorg.

Am I the only one having these problems? Could someone please try www.sun.com and see if the images are being drawn normally, on x86 and Xorg. If so, what kind of graphics card do you have?

Thanks in advance!

P.S. I would switch to Xsun for the time being if only I could make it work with keyboard layout switcher.
